After the test
Further help and advice from Argus
Passing the driving test is only the first step in becoming a skillful and thoroughly capable driver
The driving test is designed to ensure that before you are allowed to drive unsupervised on the UK highways and byways
- you have demonstrated that you can control a vehicle safely;
- you have adequate knowledge and understanding of the rules and regulations of the road; and
- you are aware of the typical hazards you are likely to encounter.
Developing the skills and experience that turn a “minimum competence” driver into a good or excellent driver is a long process for many people. How long it takes typically depends on the amount and the type of driving (rural, urban, motorway, etc.) they do after passing the driving test.
Argus School of Motoring can give you a head start on gaining these additional skills and experience through advanced tuition. Your driving instructor will discuss the options with you after you pass your test.
But if you should fail…
Nobody plans to fail, least of all Argus School of Motoring. Your driving instructor will never recommend that you take your test unless he believes you are sufficiently competent and properly prepared. But occasionally, in spite of an instructor’s and his pupil’s best efforts, a pupil will fail the driving test. The reason might just be an attack of “examination nerves”, or stress brought on simply by driving with a complete stranger — the examiner — in the car.
If you are unfortunate enough to fail your test, it’s not the end of the world, so don’t be despondent. Your driving instructor will review with you what went wrong in the test, and will agree a remedial course of action with you to prepare you for another test at a later date.
